Went through the Industrial Design program at San Jose State University back in the early 1980s. I never practiced in the field but it's fun to look back at the style and tone of design in that era.
Our design tools sure were crude in those times.
I wonder if Michael Graves and Michael Manwaring are as embarrassed about the fashion trends of this decade as I am. Ettore Sottsass' Miami-inspired "Memphis" style took hold in graphic and industrial design circles as a reaction to the relatively rigid international style of the 70s. Us design students were eager to hop on the trend.
Believe it or not, this was a design study on washing machines.
